What a great movie.
I just loved Charles Laughton as the barrister who is kind of an asshole, but really a great and smart guy. His interactions with Elsa Lanchester, his nurse, are hilarious.
Tyrone Power has so much charme in this movie, he is really good as the suspect, helpless in love with Marlene Dietrich, who just doesn't seem to feel the same way. And she is also great in her role as the German wife, even though she is almost too German.
I just love courtroom dramas. Especially if they are like this, actually smart, making you wonder how it will end. And the ending is its own thing entirely.
I kind of feel like this movie is not talked about enough. Sure, it's not completely forgotten, but I don't hear it mentioned as often as some other movies from the time that are from a similar quality.
I really enjoyed this movie and was on the edge of my seat throughout, wondering what would happen next and how it would be resolved. I'm rating Witness for the Prosecution 4.5 out of 5 stars and a like.
