Review #5 of My Horrible Collection: Shocktober list.
I guess this is the less famous werewolf movie, even though it's still one of the first. At least I didn't really hear about it until I got it in the Universal Monsters Legacy Collection, as a second movie on the Wolf Man legacy collection.
A botanist is in Tibet to find a special flower called Mariphasa. On this trip he is attacked by an animal and even bitten. Shit happens, so he doesn't think much of it and travels back to London where he plans to study the plant. Soon, he starts turning into a Werewolf.
I have to say I enjoyed this movie. The Werewolf looks different than what we are used to, but that's because this movie was before Jack Pierce designed the famous make up. What I especially liked were the transformation scenes, he walks by a post and suddenly looks a little more wolf like, it's great editing for the time.
Also, unexpectedly, this movie has a lot of comedy, funny characters (mostly aunts of the main character and his wife) and is relatively fast paced. That's of course connected to the short runtime of only 76 minutes.
All in all, this was a quite enjoyable movie, an interesting take of the werewolf and a fun time. I'm rating it 3.5 out of 5 stars and a like.
