As the bass player in a band that first started in school I was really excited about this movie.
I love Sing Street, it is a 5 star movie for me, I can give that away at the beginning.
The acting was great. Even though they were mostly no-name actors, none of them were in anything big before this, they felt real and convinced me to follow along.
Even though this movie is a love story in the end it really is much more. It's about coming of age, growing up, the problems of not having much money, it's also about a family. There is so much happening, also a lot of sad things. Still this movie manages to be funny, and you never really feel super down.
The characters were all unique and fun. The older brother, who to me looked similar to Chris Hemsworth, is especially interesting. He is the fun older brother we all wish we had, but there is also more to him, depth that you wouldn't expect when you first see him.
Now let me talk about the music. Not only is the soundtrack full of great bands, but also all the songs they wrote for this movie, performed by Sing Street, are really catchy. I actually looked for the soundtrack and will listen to it a bunch more. Actually listening to the songs as I'm writing this review.
And the music was performed well, it didn't look like they got random people and said "hold this while we play a playback." As a Bass player myself I can tell that that Bass player has mad skills and knows what he is doing.
All in all I really loved this movie, it's really a crowd pleaser. Everyone can watch it and get something out of it. I actually can't think of anything bad to say about it. I'm rating Sing Street 5 out of 5 stars. Watch it.
