Last 10 Top 10 #08 of 2016

I'll try to do a Last 10 Top 10 every 10 movies I watch in 2016. I was sick so I got to watch a lot of movies, many library rentals. And I went to the flea market.

The Cable Guy was a big surprise. Jim Carrey as a bad guy, wow. Ben Stiller directed, and he did a good job. I liked Matthew Broderick, Jack Black in a small part, but who stole the show was Carrey. This movie is really enjoyable.

I finally got to see Army of Darkness. Bought it on the flea market and watched it right after. I've seen the first two Evil Dead movies some time ago, and even the remake. The only thing missing was Army of Darkness. It was different to the other two movies, but it was just plain awesome. So much fun, so many funny lines. Bruce Campbell is awesome.

The movie about work in a sound studio in that nothing really happens, Berberian Sound Studio, was really entertaining. This shows you can do a movie that is just mood and has nothing really happen, and do it successful. I really enjoyed this, and I love Toby Jones.

Dial M for Murder is the third Hitchcock movie I've seen (not including Hitchcock). It's really good, interesting in every minute, and funny. Not what I expected from Hitchcock to be honest, it's more of a comedy than anything else. I really enjoyed it. Also Giant Telephone.

I didn't expect to like Fried Green Tomatoes. It is one of my mothers favorites, so I watched it with her, in a German dub. It's a "women's movie" is what I heard about it. But it was really good. The acting was good. The characters were interesting. And I liked the message. The main topic of this movie is racism and abuse, and it's put to film really well. It's only #5 because the other 4 numbers are either better movies or movies that are made for me, more fitted to my interests. But I liked it.

My usual documentary per list this time is The Comedians of Comedy. It wasn't anything special, but it also wasn't bad. I enjoyed seeing these comedians making jokes, seeing them travel. Also interesting seeing Zach Galifinakis before he got famous. All in all an enjoyable documentary about the Rockstars of Comedy.

I really don't know if this is the right place to put Don't look now. I see what it did. I liked what it did. It's scary. It's leaving you at unease. It is very well done. But I didn't really connect to it. That's why it's pretty far down. But I still enjoyed it and see why it's famous.

Outer Space, an experimental short movie. Very experimental. Using scenes out of Entity from 1982, the director just went crazy with it. Made a completely new story/short out of that movie. It's very interesting.

Now to the bad ones. Maleficent was beautifully shot, no questions asked. But I just didn't like the story, the way it was done. Also the big change they did at the ending. I just was used to the story and this wasn't it. But Jolie looked really close to the animated Maleficent.

And yeah, I was offended by 300: Rise of an Empire. It looked good (or would have looked great in 3D), but that's about it. The story wasn't interesting, everything was crazy. And it had way more than 300 people for sure. So yeah, it's my Number 10.

That's it for this week. I'm still sick, so let's see how much more I can watch in the next week.

  1. The Cable Guy
  2. Army of Darkness
  3. Berberian Sound Studio
  4. Dial M for Murder
  5. Fried Green Tomatoes
  6. The Comedians of Comedy
  7. Don't Look Now
  8. Outer Space
  9. Maleficent
  10. 300: Rise of an Empire
