I'll try to do a Last 10 Top 10 every 10 movies I watch in 2016. This time I was in an Easter Mood, so I watched 2 Jesus movies and a Zombie movie, perfect for Easter.
First off, probably a controversial pick, my number one is Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead. Objectively, this probably isn't better than my numbers 2 and 3, but subjectively, for me, this movie was just perfect. Just like Braindead, it is so crazy and over the top, I can't not love it. And I have to put it at my number 1.
Misery is based off one of my favorite Stephen King novels with the same name. And it has one of the best acting performances by Kathy Bates. I really really liked this and if Dead Snow didn't hit all my favorite things, Misery would have been my number 1 for sure.
I've actually seen The Truman Show as a kid with my parents. And it stuck with me ever since, but I needed to rewatch it to actually be able to remember enough. Now I finally did and I enjoyed it. It's just a great story, interesting concept and well done. Jim Carrey giving a great performance.
Tremors is really just a fun time. I expected a low budget so bad it's good movie, but instead I got a decent monster movie with good acting, great practical effects and an interesting story. I was really surprised about how much I liked this.
Many people say The Greatest Story Ever Told has such a star studded cast that it kind of distracts you. But to be honest, I'm not that big into that time frame (yet), so I didn't even recognize most of those famous people. Max von Sydown was surprisingly good as Jesus, his first English-speaking role. Sadly, with over 3 hours running time, this movie is too long and got a little tiring at some parts. I still enjoyed it for sure.
I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It was a fun time and some scenes were really good. The action was great, especially Batman's fight scenes. And I actually like this Batman a lot. But it had many faults, lots of things that took me out of the movie, especially lots of stupid things that really annoyed me. But it's still a movie you can watch without having to leave the cinema.
The Passion, my second Jesus "movie" for this list. But It's not really a movie, more of a live television musical. That being said, I didn't love it nor did I hate it. It had lots of great songs, and I felt that the songs also fit pretty well. Judas' Bring me to life was just awesome. What I didn't like was that they had like, 5 songs by Jesus mother Mary, singing to us about her feelings during all the stuff happening to Jesus. That really got annoying after some parts. And I was bored by the interviews with people following the illuminated cross through New Orleans, I felt like they could have cut those out.
The Arrival, my third Peter Tscherkassky movie this year, a re-edit of the Arrival of a train, one of the first movies ever. It was very short, so it's hard to rank this against normal movies, but I liked it, so I decided to put it behind the Passion, which I was fine with, but before Man of Steel, which I didn't like.
So yeah, I did not like Man of Steel. It either bored me or annoyed me, or both at the same time. I just put off watching this movie because I didn't hear many good movies about it and just watched it because we watched it as a group two days before BvS. It was stupid, nothing really made sense, and everything bored me or was too over the top. (I know I said I like over the top, but only if it is intentional and to make fun of something, not just to have more bigger explosions).
At least, Man of Steel looked good and had good acting. My last movie of this Top 10 Last 10 is No One Lives and [Spoilers ahead] the title isn't accurate. It's a WWE productions movie, so I already knew it wouldn't be good. It was just stupid and crazy, and the acting wasn't that good and I also watched a cut version, so I probably missed the best parts, because this movie is just a gore fest. That's why this is my number 10. Also because Brodus Clay was in this movie and didn't even do the Funkasaurus dance.
Soo, another 10 movies watched and ranked. These were a little more mixed, a very strong top 3, but also 2 movies I didn't like. Hope to see you next time, with hopefully even more, even better movies.
