The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, 2015 - ★★½

I haven't watched Spongebob in around 5 to 6 years probably. And I gotta say it feels different.

Plankton tries once again to steal the Krabby Patty formular. This time he is as close as he ever was to it, but then it suddenly dissappears. When it's gone, the post apocalypse begins. It's now in the hands of Spongebob and Plankton to get it back.

First of all, Sponge out of Water isn't a good title since he only goes out of water in the last half hour maybe, so this is as much out of water as the first movie (I think).

I loved the reference to Mad Max: The Road Warrior. When the post apocalypse breaks out suddenly everyone is wearing weird clothes and chaos is happening.

What I didn't like is that up to the last half hour Patrick, Squidward and Sandy were very minor characters, they were only on the side while it was all about Spongebob and Plankton. Even Mr. Krabs had more screentime than Sandy and Squidward and I think even Patrick. But I don't like Spongebob on his own, I want the interaction with stupid Patrick and annoyed Squidward. So that was pretty dissappointing.

On the good side when they go to land (see the poster) they soon become super heroes and I love their superpowers and looks. The scenes on land were funny and I really enjoed them, also the whole team was together again.

I loved the Cameo by the epic rap battles of history guys and also that the rap battle at the end was very ... unfitting, but I love those guys so it's alright.

All in all it was an enjoyable movie and I liked meeting Spongebob and the gang again, but it could have been much better. So I'm rating this 2.5 stars out of 5.
